Negril

Negril is Jamaica at its most barefoot. Where Montego Bay is polished and Kingston is urban, this westernmost corner of the island runs on flip-flops, reggae, and the slow arc of the sun. Seven Mile Beach unfurls in one uninterrupted ribbon of white sand and warm, shallow water — arguably the finest swimming beach in the Caribbean.

The parish splits in two. Norman Manley Boulevard is the beach: all-inclusive resorts on one end, boutique cottages, beach bars, and jet-ski shacks on the other. A short drive south, the West End cliffs rise forty feet out of impossibly clear water — cave hotels, cliff-diving bars like Rick's Café, and the sunsets that put Negril on the map in the first place.

Away from the coast, day trips reward the effort: the Blue Hole Mineral Spring cliff jump, YS Falls in St. Elizabeth, and a Black River safari to spot crocodiles. Negril is where you come to stop checking the time.
