Falmouth

Falmouth is the best-preserved Georgian town in the Caribbean — a grid of 200-year-old brick-and-timber merchant houses, waterfront warehouses, and a working courthouse that has changed remarkably little since the sugar-boom 1790s. Walk it slowly, ideally with a guide from Falmouth Heritage Renewal, and Jamaica's colonial-era story sharpens into focus.

The parish's other headline is bioluminescence. Trelawny's Luminous Lagoon is one of only five bright-enough bioluminescent bays in the world — a warm, waist-deep lagoon where every stroke sends up a glowing blue trail. Boat tours leave nightly from Glistening Waters just outside town.

Beyond the town limits, Trelawny is quiet, rural, and green — Good Hope Estate offers horseback rides through a working plantation, and the coastline stretches undeveloped in both directions. With the cruise pier bringing day-trippers in and out by 4pm, evenings in Falmouth belong to the people who chose to stay.
